'Section 3146' Barossa Valley Shiraz

History - Joachim Zerk, an early German pioneer farmer, settled in the Barossa Valley in 1846. He then purchased for 200 pounds what he considered a perfect site for a vineyard, which was named ?Section 3146?.
The Zerk vineyard (where sisters Janelle and Kristen grew up together) issituated in Lyndoch in the Barossa Valley and is steeped deep in familyhistory. This wine captures the essence and evolution of five generationsof pioneering hard work from 1846 (close to 180 years).
Vintage - The 2023 Barossa Valley Shiraz vintage has been notable for its extended growing season and the resulting elegant wine profiles.
Approximately 3?4 weeks later than the recent norm, influenced by La Ni?a, which brought cooler weather than usual. The Barossa Valley produced Shiraz wines that are elegant & balanced with spicy complexity reflective of the extended growing season.
Winemaking - The fruit was picked in the cool of the night and fermented in open fermenters with daily pump overs and several drain downs. It has spent 24 months in a mix of American and French oak Hogs head barrels. The oak is supportive and not overpowering, nurturing the natural fruit and subtle tannins from a great vintage.
Colour - Deep crimson red with indigo hues.
Nose - Perfumed layers of fresh red berries, cracked black pepper, subtle spice and lifted floral violet notes.
Palate - Juicy forest fruits and raspberry with complexing spice? pepper, clove and hints of graphite. Fine tannins frame the wine, adding elegance and drive. This wine exudes classic Barossa Valley characteristics and has beautiful structure for longevity.
Analysis - Alcohol ? 14.5% pH - 3.58, Acid - 6.43
Cellaring - Generous and drinking beautifully now.
Some cellaring may suit your taste and will produce a more chocolatey, savoury wine with time ? 10 years plus recommended.
